COVID-19 Music Remote Learning Activities

Elementary Music: K-5 Remote Learning Activities

Kindergarten (both activities are for 2 days of music class)

  1. Day 1 Activity: 
    1. Choose a song or chant from music class and teach it to someone at home and teach them the game, too.
    2. Song/Chant Titles: 
      1. Doggie Doggie, Apple Tree, Grizzly Bear, Bee Bee, Engine Engine No. 9
  2. Day 2 Activity: Worksheet “My Favorite Piece of Music “
    1. Students choose 3 favorite songs (preferably not from music class) and select one to draw a picture about and list why it is their favorite song.
  3. Optional Activity: website composition and exploring!
    1. Go to Ms. Cooper’s website: www.tcoopermusic.org
      1. Click on the “general music” → “interactive websites”
      2. Here there are links for online music websites that students can explore with and use their composition skills
    2. Chrome Music Lab (google search)
      1. Select any category and explore!

1st Grade (both activities are for 2 days of music class)

  1. Day 1 Activity: Worksheet “My Favorite Piece of Music “
    1. Students choose 3 favorite songs (preferably not from music class) and select one to draw a picture about and list why it is their favorite song. 
  2. Day 2 Activity: Connect the Dots Instrument Families
    1. Students connect the numbers in order with a pencil.
    2. Trace the letters of the instrument family
    3. Students color the instrument once numbers are connected
  3. Optional Activity: website composition and exploring!
    1. Go to Ms. Cooper’s website: www.tcoopermusic.org
      1. Click on the “general music” → “interactive websites”
      2. Here there are links for online music websites that students can explore with and use their composition skills
    2. Chrome Music Lab (google search)
      1. Select any category and explore!

2nd Grade (both activities are for 2 days of music class)

  1. Day 1 Activity: Worksheet “My Favorite Piece of Music “
    1. Students choose 3 favorite songs (preferably not from music class) and select one to draw a picture about and list why it is their favorite song.
  2. Day 2 Activity: Beat Lyric Worksheet
    1. Students choose a song from music class and write out the lyrics in each beat. 
    2. After the lyrics are written down, the student will fill in the rhythm notation under the lyrics. (ta, ti-ti, and a quarter rest)
    3. Songs to choose from: Bow Wow Wow, Pease Porridge Hot, Johnny Caught a Flea, Naughty Kitty Cat, All Around the Buttercup
  3. Optional Activity: website composition and exploring!
    1. Go to Ms. Cooper’s website: www.tcoopermusic.org
      1. Click on the “general music” → “interactive websites”
      2. Here there are links for online music websites that students can explore with and use their composition skills

3rd Grade (both activities are for 2 days of music class)

  • Day 1 Activity: Instrument Worksheets
    1. Students color the instruments according to the directions
  • Day 2 Activity : worksheet “My Favorite Type of Music” (you may find it on youtube with parent permission or on another resource that plays music)
    1. Select a song that you like to listen to outside of music class- listen to it and write a paragraph reflection.
    2. A reflection includes: why you like it, how does it make you feel, does it make you want to dance, does it remind you of someone or something
    3. If you don’t have a favorite song, ask a family member to play one of theirs!
