Fairbanks Youth Chorus 2014-2015
*Grades 4-8
*Tuesday and Thursday 3:15-4:30
This is not just a singing chorus. Students will experience Boomwhacker Ensemble, Orff Ensemble, and experience African Drumming during rehearsals or for a performance!!
Who: Any student in grades 4-8 may join the chorus. Chorus members are ambassadors of Fairbanks Local Schools and are thus expected to demonstrate excellent behavior, attitude, academic performance, and school and rehearsal attendance. The chorus is directed by Fairbanks’ music teacher, Mrs. Cooper.
What: The chorus will have various performance opportunities throughout the school year including holiday concerts, nursing home visits, and others. This is a great learning opportunity for the students and a great way to serve our community.
When: Chorus will take place throughout the school year in Mrs. Cooper’s music room. A parent meeting is scheduled on Thursday Sept. 4th at 7pm in FES Media Center. Chorus will start on September 9th . There will be a voice check just to see where the student’s voice is currently. This is NOT an audition.
Where: The chorus will rehearse every Tuesday and Thursday after school (3:15-4:30) in the music room. There will be a variety of performance opportunities throughout the school year that will occur in various locations. Wednesday rehearsals may be added in preparation for upcoming concerts if needed
Why: Chorus is fun! Music games will be incorporated as warm ups and for students to just have fun! Children involved in chorus learn proper singing technique, the importance of responsibility and teamwork and develop improved self-confidence.
What you will need:
-A black 1″ binder with a clear plastic front cover.
-Performance t-shirt that is worn all year. Order forms will be available.
-Snack for after school (please keep it quick and concise)
-A positive attitude, a love for music, and an open mind!!!
